Rosslyn, VA: Today, Former Army National Guardsman and U.S. Navy Veteran Vincent Anthony Lopez was sworn in as the New Mexico State Director by Selective Service System Region III Director Steven Kett. Mr. Lopez was nominated by New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.
“Having served in the Army National Guard and the Navy, I appreciate and respect the sacrifices that the men and women who serve are making for our country. The Selective Service System enables our Nation to respond effectively to military personnel needs in times of a national emergency. It is an honor and privilege to serve as New Mexico State Director and support this important mission by ensuring that we can rapidly mobilize operations across the state if called upon to do so,” said Mr. Lopez.
Mr. Lopez served six years in the U.S. Navy before transitioning to the New Mexico Army National Guard (ARNG). During his 14 years with the ARNG, he served as a senior personnel manager, was recognized as an award-winning recruiter and dedicated his talents to helping others as an educator and career counselor. Mr. Lopez is a decorated veteran with two National Defense Service Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, and the New Mexico Medal of Merit. He subsequently worked for the Veterans Services Department of New Mexico, and most recently served as Deputy Sergeant of Arms for the New Mexico State Legislature. He has served as a basketball coach for the past forty years at various Santa Fe elementary schools.
Mr. Kett said, “Mr. Lopez served his country in the New Mexico Army National Guard, and the U.S. Navy with honor and distinction; and built a successful career in state government and the private sector. We are fortunate to have him on our team. As New Mexico State Director, he will lead our efforts to strengthen our readiness capabilities statewide in coordination with State, county and local leaders.”
Mr. Lopez earned his bachelor’s degree from Regents College in New York, NY and his master’s degree in business Administration from the University of La Verne in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. He lives in Santa Fe, NM with his wife, Stephanie, and their family. They are very involved in the community, supporting their local schools and churches.
